[ZZ] World Map

[ZZ] World Map

Postby dogzack123 » Thu Dec 15, 2016 1:54 am

So I was thinking the other day, now that maps are available to be bought from villagers, it is probably possible to make a map of the entire current world, with the world border. Obviously this would take a lot of effort and resources, but it definitely seems doable.

I made a little thing in Desmos explaining the amounts of resources that we would need to complete the map, which is here.

If you have any interest in working on this project, please let me know! I feel that with a lack of other people helping I would probably quit after a day or two.

I really like this idea, even when the map will be huge!
I took the liberty to sum up what resources we'd need :

  • about 2100 emeralds or 33 stacks (7 per map)
  • about 150 stacks of paper (almost 3 double chests) (32 per map)

this would be used to trade for about 300 maps at a price of 7 emeralds per map.
The total map would be about 10 maps in diameter

I'm just curious why you'd need to buy all those with emeralds? So I took the data and looked at what we'd need if we'd craft all of the maps:
  • 1200 iron or about 19 stacks (4 per map)
  • 300 redstone or 5 stacks (1 per map)
  • 12000 paper or about 188 stacks/3 and a half double chest (40 per map)

tbh, I'd say crafting the maps is cheaper, even if you take a 1:1 price for the emerald and iron.

That said, actually filling the maps seems to be the most work, but it could be very rewarding if you see it fill up :D (I'd totally do the ocean in between trefarm and tretown and maybe Zen and surounding! )

Like I said yesterday, I have plenty of iron and no emeralds, so I would prefer to craft them. I proposed building it in Zen, Treiskaideka could decide where. Dogzack said it would be 40 x 40 blocks, so we might need some sort of viewing platforms.

The only reason I thought buying the maps from villagers would be easier is because some players **coughcoughrickardcoughcough** have farmed a lot of emeralds, and also that emeralds are far easier to get than iron if you have the right setup.

That said, if we could get everyone involved, and have each person craft/buy a portion of the necessary maps, the cost would seem far less.

nah, I'd be 20 by 20

(one map would be 2048 by 2048 blocks, so about 10 for a radius of 20000)

But I'll keep an eye out for a nice place in Zen.

Okay, I've made a resource pack that just makes the map texture black so you can see the pixels that you miss.
