Can't you possibly install a mod that you can put a sign on a chest and Noone can open nor break it?

That's why there is Zurvival.
I guess more people will start to play there again, when it's updated to 1.8.

There is a way, donating means that only you can access chests in a specified area. Check out the donating page for more info.
